Types of Recruiters
  • Retained - typically $200,000+ positions, exclusive arrangement, higher fees paid regardless of results, conducts personal interviewing. 
  • Contingency - pay for placement only, lower fees, phone interviews only. 

Choosing a Recruiter

  • Clearly identify your needs - less than $150,000 base salary is probably a contingency recruiter. 
  • Identify the skills and experiences required for the position that you are filling. 
  • Identify the qualities that you desire in a recruiter. 

Things to consider when choosing a recruiter

  • What experience do the recruiter have working in the industry - on the manufacturer side and/or in recruiting.?
  • Do they seek a long-term partnership with you or just a one-shot deal to fill the position.?
  • Do they prescreen and reference candidates.?
  • How will they save you time while finding the best people?
  • Who are their other clients and are they on the same level as your company?  Have they filled similar positions with other companies?
  • Do they guarantee their placements?
  • How will they will represent your company to candidates?
